When my grandson, who is wise beyond his years, reached the age of 16 he was given the opportunity to get his driver's license and declined. He told me "Grandma, a car would take too much time and effort away from my studies." At the age of 19, he still uses public transportation and carpools to classes. He says he'll have plenty of time for a car after he gets his degrees. Yes, thats plural, he's plans to go on for a PHD. I told you he was smart right?
However, for those of us who are not so wise and less focused, having a vehicle has become a way of life and one that can definitely eat up a big chunk of our income.
